How to get from Arequipa to Puno?
To get from Arequipa to Puno, you have to consider that this the route has more options and flexibility with itineraries. Learn and choose the best option for your trip.
1.- By Bus :
When we talk about buses on this route, there are bus companies that offer a touristic service like CRUZ DEL SUR and TRANSZELA, but they have departures just at 22:00, arriving to Puno around 5 in the morning.
On the other hand, there are buses with less confortable seats, but they have more daily departures during the day.
This is a 7 hours trip. All bus companies will drop you off at the TERMINAL TERRESTRE in Puno.
2.- Transfer with Sprinters o Vans H1:
These “Sprinters” have more flexibility with their schedules, they leave as soon as they get enough passengers to complete the car. So you can just ask a taxi driver, to take you to bus terminal for Sprinter going to Juliaca/Puno, located on Av. Andrés Avelino Cáceres. Once there you will find several people offering the service and they can show you which one is the next car ready to leave.
Unfortunately these cars just arrive to Juliaca. Prices are around 40-50 soles. The travel journey is around 4- 5 hours. Once in Juliaca you can take a taxi to bus terminal for cars going to Puno.
3.- By Private Car:
If you prefer to drive, you can do it taking the Interoceánica Road for 230 Km until 121 Road, then continue the Sierra Sur Road (3S) to Puno for 70 Km.
4.- By air:
If you are thinking in taking a flight to Juliaca, you need to know that there are no direct flights from Arequipa to Juliaca, so even if you by a flight AREQUIPA – JULIACA, it will flight to Lima, then to Juliaca, that is why you will have some scales and will have to wait time to get to Juliaca.
