How to get from Puno to Amantani?
To get from Puno to Amantani, You need to be first in Puno or Juliaca.
To choose the best option, you have to consider two important things:
1.- If you will visit JUST that island
2.- Time you arrive to Puno or Juliaca
Now learn how to get to the wonderful island of Amantani.
1.- Public Boat :
Every day, you will find a boat leaving to Amantani from the Main Port in Puno (located at El puerto Av.), the boat leaves at 8:00 a.m, it makes a short for a visit in Uros, and it continues to Amantani arriving around 1 in the afternoon.
Next day, it leaves Amantani at 8 a.m. It will make a stop for a visit to Taquile Island, then it continues to Puno, arriving around 4 in the afternoon.
The ticket for the boat is between 35 – 40 soles and it doesn’t include the entrance fee for each island. Lodging and meals are not included either.
If you haven’t booked lodging in Amantani, you can do it once you arrive to the island. On the other hand, if you have already booked one, you have to call your hotel before you leave Puno, to coordinate a pick up in Amantani or at least some information to get without problems.
You will find several lodgings in Amantani, most of them offer bed and breakfast, but there are some lodgings that offer a service with a great combination of comfort, great buildings and traditional experiences surrounded by nature, that you can try.
Whatever will be the lodging you choose, we sugest to visit the Pachatata Temple to appreciate the sunset, it’s for sure that you will take stunning pictures with the Lake Titikaka.
2.- By private boat:
If you have arrived to Puno later than 8, and you still want to go to Amantani, you can go to the Main Port and hire a private boat, but you need to know that boats are allowed to leave just until 10:30 – 11 in the morning for a safe travel journey avoing strongs waves.
3.- With a travel agency:
This is the easiest option, as the travel agency will organize everything and you just need to get some snacks. If you have booked lodging on your own, you have to tell the agency about the contact to coordinate a pick up on the island. If you haven’t booked one, let the agency do it, which is part of a package tour that you can get.
Organized tours do allways the same route which is visiting Uros and Amantani the same day and Taquile the second day before going to Puno.
4.- Capachica Península
This is the best option if you have decided to visit JUST this island.
To get to the Capachica Península, ask a taxi driver to take you to Capachica bus stop (Paradero a Capachica). Once there, you just have to wait until the car is beary to leave.
After a trip of 1 hour 30 minutes, you will arrive to Capachica and will need to take a taxi to CHIFRON BEACH, if you prefer you can walk, it will take you around 30 – 40 minutes. From Chifrón port, you will find shared boats leaving to a Amantani. Depending on weather they can leave until 2 pm, but when it’s windy, they just leave until 12 pm. that’s why we suggest to get there around noon.
JULIACA’S AIRPORT
In case that you have arrive to Juliaca’s airport, you can take a taxi that takes you to Chifrón Port, the trip will last 1 hour 30 minutes. Once there take a boat to Amantani.
Remember that is better if you arrive before noon to avoid any boat cancellation because of weather.
