How to get to Taquile Island?
To get to Taquile island, at first you need to be in Puno or in Juliaca’s airport.
One important thing is that whether you arrive the same day or if you arrive a day before to Puno. It’s also important that you have decided to visit just Taquile island, or if you will visit Uros Floating islands as well.
There are 3 ways to get to Taquile Island:
1.- By public Boats:
To take the public boat that leaves to Taquile, you have to go to the Main Port (located in El puerto Av.)
This boat leaves at 7:30 to 8:00 a.m, that’s why we suggest to be there earlier to get a place on the boat, because there aren’t shared publci boats later.
At the port, go to the Taquile’s office and get your ticket, which is 20 to 25 soles in one way.
This boat makes a stop on Uros Floating Islands, and it continues to Taquile arriving around noon. To return to Puno, the boat leaves at 2:30 pm.
It’s important that you ask to the captain of the boat if the it will leave from the same port of arrival or not. Sometimes to cheer visitants up to visit the island, public boats arrive to a port and they leave from another one in order that tourist appreciate another sides of the island.
You will arrive to Puno around 5:30 p.m. to the Main Port.
Remember that this service is just for transportation, you will need to pay the entrance for each island.
2.- By Private boat:
If you arrive to Puno later than 8 in the morning, is less probable you find a shared boat to Taquile, but you can hire a private boat, to do it, you need to go to the Main port.
If you want to visit Uros, you need to tell that to the captain.
Because of distance and safety, boats to Taquile just are allowed to leave the port until 10:30 a.m.
It’s also posible to take private boats from Llachón and Luquina Chico, little villages located in Capachica and Chucuito Península. Prices depends on number of people.
3.- Kayaking:
If you prefer adventures, this is best option for you. Nowadays it’s posible to make kayaking from Uros Titino and Llachón, but it’s a private that needs coordination in advance
If your arrival will be to Juliaca’s airport, kayaking could work perfect for you. Ask a take driver to take you to Llachón. Once there you will be ready to start a new adventure. This is an exclusive private service.
Now that you know how to get to Taquile Island, you can go and just make a short visit or if you prefer enjoy something else, it’s better that you stay there.
You will find several lodgings, on different sides of the island. Some of them close to the Square, and another lodgings a little bit apart to avoid crowd places with access to beaches and with the opportunity to be part of local activities.
